Hi My name is Sandra and i am mum to three grown up kids and granny to my one and only beautiful granddaughter Norah. So how did I end up at college at the age of 51?
I am originally from a town called Lurgan in Northern Ireland, I lived there for 40 years before my family and I moved to New Cumnock in 2012 for my husband to take up the position of the pastor of the local Baptist church.
I started out my career in admin working in various administrative posts for over 25 years in NI but I gave this up when we moved to Scotland. From 2012 through to 2019 I volunteered and also worked in a local café in Cumnock but in June 2019 I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer or more commonly known as womb cancer, I was quickly taken into hospital and had a hysterectomy but as a precaution I had to have radiotherapy treatment to ensure the cancer would not return. As a result of the treatment and the side effects it has had on me I could not return to work in the café. I was at a loss as to what to do and to be honest i was in no fit state to make any decisions. I wanted to return to admin work, however I knew my skills would be outdated so i decide to apply for the HNC Admin and IT in Ayr College and so began my journey in August 2021.
