So what is life like at college after being away for over 30 years?

In August 2021 I commenced a HNC in Admin and IT in Ayr College.  Being in the middle of pandemic had its own challenges as I attended college one day a week for classes and the remaining classes where delivered online on a weekly basis.  I have to admit that on my first week all I wanted to do was run home as I felt I was too old to learn the new updated practices that are expected today.  However, I quickly settled in with the best group of students ever.  We help each other online as well by using Microsoft Teams by chatting and asking each other questions and sharing files/work.  Lecturers are also available on Teams to help at any time.

Having online classes was quite difficult to begin with with as I struggled to work and listen at the same time but i soon gained my confidence and found a way that made it easy for me to follow the subject and complete the work and even complete assessments as well.

So what subjects are in a HNC Admin and IT.  In our first semester we completed and were assessed on the following subjects:-

RFT (Recording of Financial Transaction), Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Office Admin, Visual Comms, Communication and PDP Personal Development Plan, all of which I have completed and passed and am very proud of what I have achieved to date.  Semester two subject commenced after the Christmas Holidays, once again we will be assessed on all the following subjects:-   Web Design, PowerPoint,  Databases, Sage and Payroll.

The second semester so far has been quite challenging as we are doing subjects I never studied or worked with before.  Once again the more I have delved into them the more I am enjoying them and even starting to rethink what I would like to do in the future.  Currently my plan is to complete this HNC and move to the HND and maybe if I can pluck up the courage head to University.

So please journey the rest of semester two with me and find out on my blog how I am doing and if I complete this years goal of passing this HNC, and maybe just a few pictures of my beautiful baby girl Norah!
